BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 11% of All Leagues
ANALYSIS: At first glance, Dylan Bundy may not seem like a wise add for Week 10, even given his two-start status, as he lines up to pitch at Texas on Tuesday and at Houston on Sunday. But there may be signs of hope this year for the former top prospect, after a 2018 that saw Bundy serve up round-trippers at a career-worst rate of 2.2 HR/ 9. He also saw an outrageous spike in HR/FB%, which jumped from a career 12.2%, to an unseemly 17.8% that was third-worst in the majors.
But 2018 was wasn't a complete loss, as Bundy's xFip was over a run lower than his dreadful 5.45 ERA, and he posted a career-high strikeout rate of 24.5%. In 2019, the new k-rate has stayed, with Bundy posting a 23.9% rate thus far. Unfortunately, the 17.8% HR/FB has also stayed - with Bundy posting an identical mark.
In Bundy's first start of the week, he gets the Texas Rangers, who have a potent lineup filled with left-handed bats who crush right-handed pitching. But they also strike-out at a prodigious rate, with three lefties (Odor, Guzman, Santana) posting rates north of 30%. The Rangers will also be without destroyer of baseballs, Joey Gallo, who just hit the IL with an oblique injury. Next up is a tilt in Houston, who feature a fearsome middle of Bregman, Brantley, and Gurriel - but also, due to injury - Fisher, Straw, Stubbs, Mayfield, and Kemp, who are not quite as fearsome.
Deploying Bundy is always a roller-coaster ride, as it can be difficult predicting when he'll blow up. But against two depleted lineups with high strikeout potential, Bundy could be a useful stream for those needing Ks.
