After three starts to start his MLB career, Eduardo Rodriguez was rocked for nine runs on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings during Sunday’s 13-5 loss to the Toronto Jays.
The 22-year-old left-hander entered Sunday’s start for the Boston Red Sox at 2-0 with a 0.44 ERA. Rodriguez’s shaky start ballooned his ERA to 3.55.
Nobody, not even rookies are perfect in the MLB. After three starts where Rodriguez allowed one run in 19 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts in each performance, it was as an absolute struggle Sunday. He allowed six runs in the fourth inning, three of which came off a homer by Ryan Goins.
The Red Sox left him in during the fifth, but he allowed three more runs. In total, he allowed eight hits, which is the combined total in his first three big-league starts.
His next start will come on the road against the defending AL champion Kansas City Royals.
