Encarnacion Returns, Reaches Base 5 Times

Edwin Encarnacion returned to the Toronto Blue Jays starting lineup Wednesday as the AL East leaders won 9-1 over the Atlanta Braves with a great performance.

The former All-Star batted cleanup while starting at first base rather than his usual DH spot because the Jays were in a National League park. Encarnacion went 3-for-3 with two walks and a run scored.

The 32-year-old injured his middle finger over the weekend during the series with the New York Yankees. He sat out the finale on Sunday as well as the opener with the Braves on Tuesday. Apparently he was healthy enough to get back out there, and Encarnacion reached base during every at-bat.

Toronto scored four runs in the first inning and cruised from there. The Braves scored their only run in the first inning of the game. The win snapped a brief two-game losing streak. The Jays maintained a three-game lead over the Yankees for first place in the division.
