Kansas City Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar was named as the Most Valuable Player of the ALCS.
The 28-year-old was the best player on the field throughout the six-game series with a .478 BA (11-for-23) with 6 runs scored and 5 RBI. The Royals scored 38 runs in six games in part thanks to Escobar at the top of the lineup. He reached safely in 10 straight postseason games. He also played great defense.
"For me it's a surprise," Escobar said of being named MVP. "I know I'm playing really good and my team is playing really good, together we play. And when I heard the news, I was so happy for that."
In 2015, Escobar was named to his first All-Star team and finished the season with a .257 BA with 3 HR, 47 RBI and 17 SB. His averaged dipped dramatically but he’s been a great postseason hitter with Kansas City over the last two seasons.
