BALLER MOVE: Add in Deeper Leagues, All AL-Only Leagues
ANALYSIS: Eugenio Suarez was called up a few days ago and has done nothing but hit, making him the most recent addition to our waiver wire pickups and sleepers list. As Scott Slezak pointed out in his great MLB prospects update for June call-ups piece a few days back, the Tigers are looking to beef up their shortstop production. While Suarez isn't necessarily projected as a power bat or fantasy savior, one can't help but notice his production so far. In the 4 games that he's played, Suarez has already produced a .364/.417/.909 slash line (1.326 OPS) with 2 HR, 4 RBI, 3 Runs and a 1 K vs. 1 BB ratio. Clearly this is a very small sample size but we're talking about a thin shortstop position, and a rookie call-up who was producing in the minors and is now hitting in a good Detroit lineup. Prior to getting called up, Suarez was hitting .288/.360/.510 (.870 OPS) in the minors to go along with 8 HR, 36 RBI, 32 Runs, 9 SB and 18 doubles in 198 ABs. Not too shabby at all. It'll be interesting to see how he performs over the next few days and weeks at the major league level - but if you play in a deeper leagues, just lost someone like Neil Walker to the DL, or are looking for some shortstop/middle infield help, then Suarez may be a decent option to consider off the waiver. Hopefully he can keep the good times rolling, and fantasy owners can catch some lightning in a bottle.
