Evan Engram (TE, NYG) - Fantasy Football Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 34% of Leagues

ANALYSIS: Evan Engram started the season injured and on the shelf, and his debut had to wait until he hit the field running in Week 3... to a putrid-yet-promising 2.1 PPR outing. Bear with me, folks. The Giants as a whole--not only Engram, that means--have missed players all around their receiving corps. Engram, back in W3, played only 39 snaps for a 56% snap share, but he already got targeted 6 times by QB Daniel Jones. All of that made me write about him as a WW target a week ago, and here I am for the second Monday in a row.

It makes sense. Engram just put up his second game with 6 targets, only this time he was good to catch 5 of those for 27 yards. I know, that outcome is far from great. But the volume is there, the Giants are lacking warm bodies, and Saquon Barkley has already rounded into shape and is keeping defenses honest these days. Engram will undoubtedly need to improve and raise the bar a bit if he wants to be somewhat startable in most fantasy leagues, but I'm betting on him eventually getting there.

The 7.4 PPR points of Week 4 were only good for a TE20 finish (pending MNF) going Engram's way, which is not something most fantasy GMs will like. Even then, those of you playing in deeper leagues and lacking a viable option at the tight end position should find Engram appealing enough to roster and start. If Daniel Jones keeps up his current QB1 pace, New York doesn't get everybody back healthy ROS, and Engram stays on the field, the tight end might not be the craziest of spot-starters in positive matchups going forward even in a little bit shallower formats.
