Analysis: Here are some fun facts about Evan Gattis: Coming into 2016 he has had three straight seasons of 21 HR or more, three straight seasons of slugging .463 or greater, and three straight seasons of isolated power figures of .217 or greater (also three straight seasons of K% at or above 19.7%, but that is easy to ignore). His appeal is simple: raw power.
In 85 AB this season, Gattis is slugging .430 with four homers and an isolated power figure of .186. Gattis needs nine more starts behind home plate to earn catcher eligibility, which would greatly increase his value. Although, his power is still to be desired. While his numbers don't look as impressive as years past, note his early season slump. In 46 April AB Gattis slugged just .391 and hit only one HR. In just 40 AB in May, Gattis is slugging .475 with three hits gone-yard. Gattis looks to be back to his old self, and he has earned trust through a three year track record.
