In this piece, RotoBaller delves deeper into three players who are currently in our Daily Updated Waiver Wire Watch List that you should look to own over the next few weeks. These are fringe players, available on the waiver wire in many leagues, who could have an immediate impact on your team. If you invest a roster spot in one of these guys and catch a hot streak, you could then trade for a more stable player, or roll the dice on continued hot performance. Either way, you could see a fairly nice return from any of these players.
Nolan Arenado, 3B (COL) – One of the top third-base prospects in baseball, Arenado started the season slowly but has steadily picked up the pace with regular at-bats. After slugging his sixth home run of the season on Sunday, the 2009 second-round pick is now hitting a robust .315/.344/.533 in June, with 3 HR and 12 RBI. One of the main criticisms that scouting reports indicated about Arenado was an inability to make quick adjustments at the plate, but he appears to be gaining momentum at the big-league level and is worth grabbing in most formats.
Jeremy Bonderman, SP (SEA) – Easily one of baseball’s biggest reclamation projects, Bonderman is back from the dead in his first major league stint since 2010, and he's pitching very effectively for the Mariners. In fact, if you subtract his horrendous debut in early June, the former Tiger has allowed just four earned runs in his past 25.1 innings; overall, he holds a 3.30 ERA and 1.23 WHIP on the season. We’re forced to hold our nose at his 10/10 K/BB ratio, but it’s hard to argue with the results. Don’t get too carried away, but Bonderman could definitely be useful while the going’s good.
Jhoulys Chacin, SP (COL) – Another Colorado Rockie makes the list this week, as Chacin is flying under the radar despite a relatively decent fantasy campaign thus far. Spectacular in April, the righthander struggled throughout May and into June, but he has righted the ship lately with a pair of strong outings that have seen him allow just two earned runs over 15.2 innings with a 0.77 WHIP. Now 6-3 with a 3.91 ERA, Chacin is a solid bet to keep it going against the scuffling Giants on Friday night.
