RotoBaller Farm Report for 4/26/2013

  • Byron Buxton (OF, MIN) is hitting .404 (23-of-57) in 16 games with 2 HR, 10 RBI and 7 SB at Cedar Rapids. The Twins’ top pick of last June will need some more seasoning but certainly looks to be on the fast track. He could end up in AA by the end of 2013 and make a Sept. debut in the bigs next September.  He's a guy you will definitely want to own in keeper/dynasty formats as a very solid power/speed prospect.
  • Josh Bell (OF, PIT) has returned with a vengeance this season after only playing 15 games in 2012 with a torn meniscus. Bell is hitting .284 with 3 HR and 24 RBI after his first 18 games this season at Class A West Virginia. The Pirates are happy to see their best hitting prospect return to form and make a move up the organizational ladder this season.  If he can stay healthy and continue his progress, he could get a taste of the bigs around the time of roster expansions next year, so keep him on your radar.
  • Trevor May (SP, MIN) pitched a three-hitter for his third career shutout Wednesday as the Twins' Double-A affiliate blanked New Hampshire, 5-0, in the first game of a doubleheader. The 22-year-old struck out 4 and walked 3. He sports a 2.11 ERA on the season. Over 21 1/3 innings, May has struck out 22 batters and walked 13. May was obtained in the Ben Revere trade along with Vance Worley, so the Twins hope he will be paying off soon. As a fairly high-ceiling prospect with a power-pitching body type, May could progress quickly from this point out.  It's by no means inconceivable that he could join the Twins at some point in 2013.  He has some control issues to work on, but if he can figure out the strikezone, May could be an impact pitcher down the road.
