In this piece, RotoBaller will highlight a selection of starting pitchers owned in less than 60% of both CBS and Yahoo leagues that have favorable matchups in the upcoming week. Whether you’re suffering from injuries, poor performance, or your league’s fantasy baseball waiver wire is barren, these undervalued pitchers could prove useful in the days ahead.
6/17: Bud Norris (HOU) vs. Chicago White Sox (Dylan Axelrod)
CBS Ownership: 47%, Yahoo Ownership: 13%
Norris – who has reeled off five consecutive quality starts - continues to have an underrated campaign for the lowly Astros, as he’s posted a 3.06 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 35/15 K/BB ratio in 53 innings since the start of May. It’s always tough picking Houston against any opposing team, but the White Sox are the AL’s second worst team and make Norris a solid play in all formats.
6/18: Jose Quintana (CHW) @ Minnesota Twins (Mike Pelfrey)
CBS Ownership: 50%, Yahoo Ownership: 12%
For the most part, Quintana has been a serviceable starter this season, boasting a solid 3.86 ERA and 1.22 WHIP while averaging just 2.6 BB/9 over 77 IP. Yet while the Twins have hit him well over his career, the White Sox have hit the hugely underperforming Pelfrey even harder, as current Chi-Sox batters own a career .327/.410/.596 triple-slash in 61 plate appearances versus the former Mets hurler. Quintana is worth streaming in deeper mixed leagues on Tuesday.
6/18: Jerome Williams (LAA) vs. Seattle Mariners (Jeremy Bonderman)
CBS Ownership: 21%, Yahoo Ownership: 13%
Williams continues to be a highly effective starter for the Angels, as the righthander has utilized great control and his patented sinker to rack up a 3.15 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 46/18 K/BB ratio in 68.2 IP this season. Although still the odd man out when Los Angeles can shuffle its rotation, Williams is on track to face Seattle this Tuesday, a team whose current hitters he has dominated at a .221/.264/.282 clip in 136 career plate appearances.
