Fantasy Baseball Advice: Undervalued Starting Pitchers Week 13

In this piece, RotoBaller will highlight a selection of starting pitchers owned in less than 60% of both CBS and Yahoo leagues that have favorable matchups in the upcoming week. Whether you’re suffering from injuries, poor performance, or your league’s fantasy baseball waiver wire is barren, these undervalued pitchers could prove useful in the days ahead.

JWestbrook6/25: Jake Westbrook (STL) @ Houston Astros (Erik Bedard)

CBS Ownership: 36%, Yahoo Ownership: 20%

Knocked around in his first start off the disabled list following a five-week elbow-related hiatus, Westbrook was back to his early-season form in a dominant effort versus the Cubs on Wednesday, and he appears ready to resume dealing. His season K/BB ratio of 21/22 is still alarmingly poor, but you can’t argue with the sinkerballer’s results, as he still owns a 1.76 ERA through eight starts. He’s a very strong play in a matchup with inept Houston, so stream Westbrook in an all formats.

Corey Kluber 2013 05 15 Indians6/27: Corey Kluber (CLE) @ Baltimore Orioles (Miguel Gonzalez)

CBS Ownership: 52%, Yahoo Ownership: 34%

Always a solid minor-league pitcher, Kluber appears to be building off a rookie campaign that featured decent peripherals and moderate overall success. Since the start of June, the Stetson University product has put up a 2.05 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 22 innings pitched, and his past two starts have been dominant: back-to-back eight-inning efforts with just one earned run allowed in total. The Orioles are no slouch offensively, but look for Kluber to keep it going in Baltimore on Thursday night.

6/28: Dillon Gee (NYM) vs. Washington Nationals (Dan Haren)

CBS Ownership: 54%, Yahoo Ownership: 19%

Since Gee’s place in the Mets’ rotation was called into question by manager Terry Collins at the end of May, the righthander has gone from flirting with a minor league demotion to being one of baseball’s best pitchers. In his past four starts, Gee has a 1.53 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 32/4 K/BB ratio in 29.1 IP; those numbers make him a must-start in all formats, but especially against Washington’s weak offense and the struggling Haren, who currently sports a heinous 6.15 ERA on the year.
