Dak Prescott Injury Update
Fans of the Dallas Cowboys were nervous when they heard Dak Prescott was limited in practice earlier this week. The good news is that despite appearing on the injury report with an ankle injury, the Cowboys are saying that he was limited in practice due to simply switching cleats.
Of course, Prescott suffered a fractured ankle two seasons ago, so some people might bring that up when they see the Pro Bowl signal-caller dealing with an ankle injury. But as weird as it is to see the former fourth-round pick be on the injury report for changing cleats, it doesn't appear it's anything that will jeopardize his status for Sunday night's season opener versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Despite Prescott being a talented quarterback, the Cowboys are experiencing multiple injuries along the offensive line and in the receiver room, leaving him with unproven weapons outside of CeeDee Lamb, Dalton Schultz, Ezekiel Elliott, and Tony Pollard. People that took the 2022 NVP in fantasy football this season should temper expectations on the veteran quarterback.
George Kittle Injury Update
UPDATE 9/11: George Kittle is not expected to play in Week 1.
Injuries have plagued George Kittle his entire career and he's already dealing with an injury before the 2022 season begins. The All-Pro tight end was unable to practice on Friday and he's officially listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Chicago Bears.
When Kittle is available for the San Francisco 49ers, he's unquestionably one of the best tight ends in football. The three-time Pro Bowler's absence comes at an unfortunate time with the 49ers hoping to see Trey Lance blossom in the offense in his first year as the full-time starter.
With Kittle's status unknown after not practicing all week, Tyler Kroft could start until the superstar tight end can return.
Zach Wilson Injury Update
Robert Saleh, the head coach of the New York Jets, continuously said in the weeks leading up to the regular season that Zach Wilson could potentially still play in Week 1. However, with the second-year quarterback recovering from a knee injury, the Jets have ruled him out for the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
Besides officially ruling Wilson out for Week 1, the Jets have revealed that the BYU product will miss a minimum of three weeks to begin the season. Veteran Joe Flacco will be the starting quarterback in New York to begin the season, though, it remains to be seen if they give Mike White a chance at some point.
Skill players on the Jets aren't affected much by the Wilson news, but it will be interesting to see how they perform once the young signal-caller returns to the field.
Zach Ertz Injury Update
Zach Ertz has been missing practice time for the Arizona Cardinals throughout the preseason. After dealing with a calf injury, and missing practice on Thursday, the veteran tight end participated in practice on Friday.
With Ertz practicing on Friday, it seems as if his absence from practice on Thursday could have simply been a veteran rest day. On top of that, his availability on Friday is a positive sign for his status for Sunday's bout with the Kansas City Chiefs, though, he's officially listed as questionable.
If the 31-year-old tight end is active in Week 1, he should see a decent-sized target share from Kyler Murray with DeAndre Hopkins out for the first six weeks and with Rondale Moore now ruled out for Sunday's tilt with the Chiefs.
Logan Thomas Injury Update
Logan Thomas suffered a torn ACL and damage to his MCL and meniscus in the latter part of last season. Even with the veteran tight end recovering from a serious injury, the Washington Commanders have yet to rule him out in Week 1 versus the Jacksonville Jaguars.
While his status for Sunday's clash with the Jaguars is uncertain, Thomas was doing red-zone work with the offense in practice on Friday.
Washington has been cautious with the Virginia Tech product in his recovery from a brutal knee injury, but he's been making positive progress throughout the offseason. If Thomas is active in Week 1, he'll likely be on a snap count as he gets acclimated to playing in a live game again.
Meanwhile, if the former fourth-round pick is inactive, John Bates could draw the start for the Commanders at tight end with Cole Turner also questionable.
