Welcome to the new Daily Fantasy Hockey weekly waiver wire report. Each week I will be updating some of the players we should targeting on the waiver wire to help us build a championship fantasy hockey team. The recommendations will focus on, for the most part, standard Yahoo Hockey leagues with the following stat categories:
- Goals
- Assists
- Powerplay Points
- Short Handed Points
- +/- Rating
- Shots on Goal
- Hits
- Faceoffs Won
- Goalie Wins
- Saves
- Save %
- Goals Against Average
- Shutouts
Only players who are under 50% owned in Yahoo Fantasy Hockey will be considered for the waiver wire report. If you have specific questions about how a player fits your league settings please hit me up on Twitter(@Jager_Bombs9)
Let us now take a look at this week's low owned waiver wire options:
Fantasy Hockey Sleepers and Waiver Wire Pickups at Defense and Goaltender
Defense
Shayne Gostisbehere (PHI, D) 50% Owned
He is bordering the 50% threshold needed to make the article and this very well could be his last appearance. He went in to the break with points in four straight games, including a total of four powerplay points. If you are in a keeper/dynasty league run to the waivers and pick this guy up immediately. He made a late start to the season as he didn't get called up until mid November but now leads rookie defensemen in points and is third among all rookies in points per game. The upside is incredible.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic (SJ, D) 48% Owned
Using Yahoo standard scoring, Vlasic has been a top 12 fantasy defensemen over the last month. He can add value to your fantasy team in many ways which makes him a very valuable asset. In the last 30 days he has picked up nine points, 25 shots, a +8 rating and if you are in a league that counts blocks he ads around two per game. With a thin field of options at the position he makes a great addition in any format.
Seth Jones (CBJ, D) 42% Owned
Since being traded to Columbus back in early January, Jones has seen a huge uptick in his offensive output. He has six points in his first 10 games with the Blue Jackets with a +4 rating and has averaged over 24:00 of ice time per game. It doesn't seem like a shocking amount of offense but considering he had one point in his previous 24 games with Nashville, it is a great sign for Jones. The former #4 overall pick in 2013 is poised for a big second half and if you are in a keeper/dynasty he could provide value for years to come.
Goaltenders
Louis Domingue (ARI, G) 46% Owned
The 23 year old Quebec native has been tremendous since taking over for the injured Mike Smith. He has gone 9-3-3 in the games in which he started and has a 2.31 GAA and .92 save % for the Coyotes. In his 15 starts he has only allowed more than two goals on five occasions. It is always hard to find goaltending later in the year, so if you have any roster room at all run and pick him up as soon as possible.
Eddie Lack (CAR, G) 27% Owned
Cam ward was activated from IR recently and hasn't made a start since January 15. Lack has filled in nicely in his spot and recorded a 3-2 record with .932 save % and two shutouts. He has helped the Hurricanes stay in the playoff hunt as they come out of the All Star break trailing the Pittsburgh Penguins by only one point for the final Wild Card spot. He has definitely earned more starts in the second half when Ward is back.
