Welcome to the new Fantasy Hockey Sleepers and NHL Waiver Wire report. Each week I will be updating some of the players you should targeting on the waiver wire to help you build a championship fantasy hockey team. The recommendations will focus on, for the most part, standard Yahoo! Fantasy Hockey leagues with the following stat categories:
- Goals
- Assists
- Powerplay Points
- Short Handed Points
- +/- Rating
- Shots on Goal
- Hits
- Faceoffs Won
- Goalie Wins
- Saves
- Save %
- Goals Against Average
- Shutouts
Only players who are under 50% owned in Yahoo Fantasy Hockey will be considered for the waiver wire report. If you have specific questions about how a player fits your league settings please hit me up on Twitter(@Jager_Bombs9)
Let us now take a look at this week's low owned waiver wire options..
Fantasy Hockey Sleepers and Waiver Wire Pickups at Forward
Aleksander Barkov (FLA, C) 46% Owned (15% increase from last week)
The ownership took a big jump(+15%) from last week even though he had two scoreless games. He wasn't awful in those games with a +2 rating but only seen two shots. The ice time remains around 20:00 a game on the top line with Jaromir Jagr and Jonathan Huberdeau and he is seeing 2:55 a game on the top powerplay unit. Look for him to get back on the score sheet soon with a nice schedule upcoming on the road.
Nino Niederreiter (MIN, RW) 8% Owned
A new entry to the waiver recommendations this week. He has been very consistent in the last 2+ weeks with points in seven of his last 10 games. He has been doing this on the Wild's third line averaging around 13:30 of ice time per game and close to 2:00 on the second powerplay unit. The Wild have two favorable matchups this week versus Columbus and Philadelphia.
Leo Komarov (TOR, C/LW) 47% Owned (1% increase from last week)
Somehow still under 50% owned in Yahoo leagues. Since last week his ownership has only climbed 1% even though he put up three assists in the last two games with a +3 rating and seven shots. He has now recorded 27 points on the season and has been a bright spot offensively for the struggling Maple Leafs.
