Garza Pitches 7-Inning, One-Run, Two-Hit Gem

Matt Garza pitched a two-hitter through seven innings, en route to a 10-1 victory on Thursday against the San Diego Padres.

Garza, 31, struck out five while walking two and allowing one run. The Milwaukee Brewers spotted him with a 7-0 lead after four innings, but the right-hander controlled the Padres offense. The only run allowed came off a Melvin Upton Jr. solo home run.

Garza’s ERA has improved, but still owns a meager 4.95 with a 1.48 WHIP. It’s still not a good ERA despite putting together four straight quality starts. He allowed six runs in 12 innings of work during his last two starts, which was preceded by a six-inning zero-run performance.

He will next face the Chicago Cubs, which is the same team he pitched six innings of three-run ball in his last outing.

The Brewers have won three straight after dropping six straight. Friday will begin a three-game set against the first place St. Louis Cardinals, for three games in Milwaukee, to end an 11-game home stand.
