Gerald Everett to Seahawks - Fantasy Impact

After being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the second round of the 2017 draft and playing with them for four seasons, 26-year-old tight end Gerald Everett has decided to pack his bags and head up north the coast to play with the Seattle Seahawks beginning this upcoming season. He signed a one-year, $7 million-dollar deal with $6 million guaranteed.

The youngster’s tenure with Los Angeles was rather uneventful, as he came up short of having impact seasons and being an impact player on the team.

Will Everett’s role change in Seattle and is there any fantasy value for him in 2021? Let’s find out.

Everett’s Rams Recap

Gerald Everett often played second fiddle to TE Tyler Higbee in Los Angeles, especially in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Though Everett put up somewhat decent numbers, none of his seasons were particularly spectacular.

His most “productive” came in 2019, when he posted 37 receptions for 408 yards and two scores on 60 targets in 13 games. The South Alabama product saw some decent opportunities that season as well:

Overall, the TE leaves the Rams with 127 receptions for 1,389 yards and eight touchdowns on 204 targets in 61 games played. Nevertheless, Everett has never been a top fantasy tight end in his career thus far as his best fantasy finish among TEs came in 2018, at 22nd.

2021 Outlook

If Everett was never a top option in the Rams’ receiving game, could he ever be fantasy-relevant on the Seahawks? Well, yes, actually. Longtime veteran tight end Greg Olsen was on the team last season and called it a career recently. That leaves a huge void in the Seattle TE room and Everett has come and filled it.

Everett’s biggest competition this upcoming season will be 24-year-old Will Dissly, who was drafted in 2018. Dissly’s first two NFL seasons were cut short by injury, but the TE was able to play a full 16 games in 2020 where he compiled 24 receptions for 251 yards and two scores on 29 targets.

This was Dissly’s best NFL season and it’s safe to say the young tight end is not the most proven player out there. Therefore, no matter how unimpressive Everett’s total numbers have been thus far in his career, he is still the most experienced TE on this roster.

That alone should make him a more trustworthy target for Russell Wilson (as long as Wilson is still on the team) this season. As of now, Everett could be third or fourth in line for targets behind Tyler Lockett, D.K. Metcalf and possibly Freddie Swain. Though Lockett and Metcalf would take up a huge chunk of the target share, there is no reason why Everett can’t see decent looks each week given the overall lack of strong passing options in the Seattle passing game aside from the top-two WRs as of this point.

With a potential TE1 role on his new team, Gerald Everett has a chance to shine in 2021 and he should be considered a TE2 heading into draft season.
