The San Francisco Giants are going to make a run at free agent pitcher Zack Greinke.
Greinke opted out of the final three years of his contract to become a free agent. The right-hander left $71 million on the table by leaving his deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. There is now “a ton of industry speculation” that San Fran will try to lure the 32-year-old in, according to ESPN.
The Giants already have Madison Bumgarner at the top of their rotation, and he led the Giants to a World Series title in 2014 with his domination of October. If these two somehow become teammates, it could be a more dangerous duo than Greinke and Clayton Kershaw because of Bumgarner’s postseason success.
Greinke could be the NL Cy Young winner this season because of a 19-3 record with MLB-leading 1.66 ERA. He’s likely going to be one of the highest paid pitchers or played in the game.
