The San Francisco Giants will exercise Nori Aoki’s $5.5 million option for the 2016 season.
The defending World Series champions are under the impression that the right fielder will continue to heal from a concussion that forced his 2015 season to end early. The hope is that Aoki will be back in time for Spring Training and be out in his usual spot for the 2016 season.
The 33-year-old batted .287/.353/.380 with 5 HR and 14 SB over just 93 games for San Fran. He has played for three teams over four MLB seasons. Aoki seemed to find his home with the Giants after three solid seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers and Kansas City Royals.
The Giants failed to make the postseason this year, but the trend has been that they would win the World Series next season. This trend has happened for six straight seasons. Aoki probably wouldn’t want to leave just in case.
