Kyle Gibson pitched six shutout innings in the Minnesota Twins' 7-1 defeat over the Cleveland Indians in the first half of Wednesday's doubleheader.
Gibson scattered four hits throughout six innings while striking out nine batters. Not only was it a major bounce back start after allowing six runs to the Indians during his last outing, but the victory propelled the Twins to within a game for the second AL Wild Card spot prior to the second half of the Wednesday doubleheader.
After this start, Gibson could be called upon to pitch over the weekend in what could make or break Minnesota’s postseason chances. The right-hander now owns a 3.84 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 145/65 K/BB ratio in 194 2/3 innings.
Gibson’s had an up and down season this year, but he couldn’t have been any better on Wednesday. He got the run support he needed and the bullpen did the rest.
Brian Duensing is on the mound for Minnesota for the second game.
