Luke Gregerson rejoined the Houston Astros on Friday as they take on the Oakland A’s for the start of a three-game series.
The Astros closer left the team on Wednesday after his wife gave birth to their first child. Gregerson wasn’t needed while he was gone because the Texas Rangers won by 11 runs and then won the finale for the four-game sweep and a 2 1/2-game lead in the AL West.
Luke Gregerson likely returns to the Astros tomorrow.

The 31-year-old has been great in the closer role this season. He has 27 saves with a 2.98 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. The right-hander also has a 7-3 record. Gregerson has been one of the most important pieces in the Astros bullpen which helped the team control the AL West for most of the season. The team has struggled lately and even gave up the division lead after it seemed like they had it locked up.
Pat Neshek has been filling in as the potential closer in Gregerson’s absence.
