Greinke Out For Friday Start Against Mets: Home As Wife Gives Birth

Zack Greinke will miss his start on Friday against the New York Mets to be with his wife in L.A. while she gives birth, according to MLB.com.

Los Angeles Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly told MLB.com that it is “unrealistic” that he will be back in N.Y. for his scheduled start against the Mets. He’s hopeful that he could return to the mound and pitch during Saturday’s contest.

Greinke, 31, is now 9-2 with a 1.30 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP. The right-hander allowed three hits and a walk while striking out a season-high 11 batters during his last outing. He is currently riding a scoreless streak of 43 2/3 innings. He’s less than 16 innings away from breaking Oral Hershiser’s longest streak of 59 innings.

Prospect Zach Lee has been called up to replace Brandon Beachy. Maybe Lee will be moved to Saturday while the Dodgers look to potentially replace Greinke with another minor leaguer since Brett Anderson was injured during his last start.
