Cole Hamels was absolutely dominant on Friday night when he struck out 10 batters in an eight-inning one-run performance against the Baltimore Orioles.
It was the start the Texas Rangers were looking for after they acquired Hamels from the Philadelphia Phillies at the trade deadline in July. The left-hander allowed two hits but did walk four. The power was back as he fanned 10 Orioles for a big Rangers victory. They remain half a game ahead of the Twins for the second Wild Card.
The lone run against Hamels came home on a bases loaded walk to Chris Davis in the third inning. It's his second straight victory, and he’s actually got a little better during each start with Texas. He allowed five runs in his first start, which was followed by four, three, two and now one run. The Rangers ace now owns a 3.89 ERA and 33/13 K/BB ratio through 34 2/3 innings in his five starts with his new team.
Hamels next turn is set for Wednesday against the San Diego Padres.
