New York Mets manager Terry Collins announced that Matt Harvey will start Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals.
Harvey, 26, was set to pitch Game 5 of the NLCS but instead, the Mets swept the Chicago Cubs. The right-hander pitched Game 1 on Oct. 17 and will be more than rested in time for the start in Kansas City.
Collins says Harvey is pitching Game 1, deGrom starts Game 2, then Syndergaard and Matz

In two postseason starts this year, Harvey owns a 2.84 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 16/4 K/BB ratio. He was great against the Cubs when he went 7 2/3 innings pitched with 9 SO and 2 Runs. It was his first career postseason victory and a good sign heading into the World Series after suffering the loss in his first start.
The Royals are the hardest team in MLB to strikeout, which will make for tough matchups for the Mets power-pitchers. Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz will follow Harvey in that order. If there’s a Game 5, Harvey will likely pitch again.
