Oftentimes, when a loss occurs, it can be hard to find a positive takeaway or two. As far as the San Francisco 49ers and their struggling quarterback are concerned, however, that certainly isn’t the case.
Unfortunately, Colin Kaepernick’s struggles out on the field of play have been well documented. Yet, after Sunday night’s Week 5 loss against the New York Giants, it appears that things might be changing.
Having completed 23 of 35 passes for 262 yards and an added 23 yards on the ground, it looks as if Kaepernick has bought himself a bit of extra time as the 49ers’ starting quarterback. Before last night’s game, there were rumors Blaine Gabbert would be seriously considered over Colin Kaepernick for the starting spot.
Other than wasting a timeout late in the third quarter and a few negative plays, Kaepernick’s performance was a positive one. Is it time to, once again, consider Kaepernick a viable fantasy quarterback? Absolutely not.
Truthfully, he’s still a far cry from what he once was. That said, keep your eyes on Kaepernick. If he’s turned a corner, you’ll want to be the first to recognize it.
