ANALYSIS: Henry Ruggs III stan here. Don't judge me, I just love explosive players and Ruggs just proved to be one of them. I know, Ruggs was rather disappointing as a rook last year finishing the 2020 campaign and his first as a pro with just 84.1 total PPR points for an average of 6.5 FPPG over 13 games played. That really sucked, not gonna lie about that. But the truth is that Ruggs only saw 43 targets so it's not that he had ample opportunity to thrive off.
Ruggs, through two games this season, has logged 12 targets already--that puts him on pace to get 102 over a full 17-game season. It's going to be hard for him to get there, probably, but it definitely bodes well for the second-year receiver. Ruggs scored his first touchdown of the season last Sunday against Pittsburgh while finishing as the Raiders' top-scorer with 22.5 PPR points to the tune of a 7-5-113-1 line. The 22.6 YPR were fantastic and a top-7 mark among WRs (min. 7 targets) through two weeks of games pending MNF.
With Derek Carr attempting 37+ passes per game and a not-so-deep receiving corps, Ruggs should get targeted by the QB more often than not. Waller's W1 19 targets were absolutely insane and he came down to earth with "only" 7 looks this week, something much more reasonable. Ruggs carries the boom/bust profile attached to deep-threat wideouts with him, which is the main reason he's not more widely rostered, but he has a high ceiling as he just proved this weekend with a WR9 and 22nd-overall finish through Sunday's games. Strong flier with good FLEX appeal and even WR3/WR2 upside if he really gets feed steadily on a weekly basis.
