ANALYSIS: Washington Nationals second baseman/outfielder Howie Kendrick is hitting .294 this season with four home runs and an NL-best 13 doubles. Kendrick only has 11 RBI and 15 runs scored this season, but the 34-year-old has flashed an impressive contact profile over the last six seasons.
Since 2013, Kendrick has hit .293 or better in five of six seasons and was a .315 hitter in 2017, splitting time with the Phillies and Nationals. He has also stolen 10 or more bases in three of the last four seasons, so, even though he is only 1-for-2 on stolen bases this season, he should steal double digit bases this season. The consistent Kendrick has a career-best 40.9% hard hit ball rate to open 2018 and his 25.2% line drive rate has only been matched in 2013 (27.4% with the Angels).
What is also nice about Kendrick is that he has second base and outfield eligibility currently and has played first base in the past, a good thing considering that Ryan Zimmerman is on the disabled list. His value has never been higher as well, as Robinson Cano could miss up to two months with a broken hand, and Kendrick can fill in as a suitable replacement.
