Ahead of the 2022 season, fans are trying to determine how certain backfields will shake out across the NFL to get an edge over their league mates. The New York Jets are among the teams in the NFL that could have multiple candidates to garner touches at the running back position in Breece Hall and Michael Carter.
Despite the Jets selecting Carter in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL draft — and him having a semi-productive rookie campaign — will Hall be the starter for New York's new-look offense in 2022?
Given the information we know, let's take a look at whether or not Hall will get the nod over Carter to begin the season.

Breece Hall's 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook
Not only did the Jets select Hall with the 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft, but they also traded up to get him. Seeing that New York went out of their way to add Hall to their roster, the rookie running back out of Iowa State is projected to be the Day One starter for the Jets this season.
In his final two seasons at Iowa State, Hall totaled 3,044 rushing yards and 41 rushing touchdowns. He also tallied 82 receptions for 734 receiving yards and six touchdowns in his three collegiate seasons, proving that he is more than capable of being a three-down back in the NFL.
Besides having a chance to show Hall looking aesthetically pleasing wearing a visor, he was extremely effective at making defenders miss after making a reception at Iowa State.
Even if the Jets make Hall earn the starting job during training camp and the preseason, it'd be quite the surprise if he isn't the starter when New York faces the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1 of the regular season.
Michael Carter's 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook
For those that believe Hall is going to start this season, we have to realize that Michael Carter is still going to have a role in New York's offense. Carter flashed potential last season as a rookie, notching 964 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns on 183 total touches in 14 games.
While Hall should handle the early-down work, Carter will likely be deployed in a change-of-pace role, especially in obvious passing situations. Being able to have two running backs that can provide production on the ground and through the air should aid Wilson's development at the quarterback position.
Even with Hall projected to handle the majority of the workload, the Jets aren't going to make Carter a forgotten contributor to their offense.
Is Breece Hall Going To Start? What Is His 2022 Fantasy Football Value
The simple answer is yes. All signs point toward Hall being named the starting running back for the Jets in his debut season, even if Carter carves out a decent-sized role as his backup.
When looking at Hall's ADP for the upcoming season (42.81 according to RotoBaller's FFPC ADP), it's clear that he's being viewed as the starter for the Jets. On average, the first-year rusher is the 18th running back taken in drafts, right behind Ezekiel Elliott and ahead of David Montgomery.
So for those that are looking to get exposure to the offense of the Jets in fantasy football, you can select Hall knowing that he's primed to be the starting running back for New York in 2022.
