Is Carson Wentz A Good Fantasy Football Pickup for Week 2? Waiver Wire Outlook

Carson Wentz - Fantasy Football Rankings, Waiver Wire Pickups, Draft Sleepers

Carson Wentz played just like Carson Wentz does in Week 1. Wentz had his moments of brilliance where he showed why he was drafted second overall in the 2016 NFL draft. He made some pinpoint passes to shred the Jacksonville Jaguars defense for 313 yards and four touchdowns.

Wentz looked energized quarterbacking a new team and having a terrific trio of wide receivers (Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel, Jahan Dotson) turning his passes into big-chunk plays and scores.

Wentz also had his moments that made you scratch your head like you had a dandruff problem, though. He threw interceptions on back-to-back plays and made a few questionable decisions with some of his reads. In the end he had a superb fantasy day and led the Washington Commanders to victory, but what are his fantasy fortunes are for the remainder of the season, and is he someone fantasy managers should pick up heading into Week 2?

Is Carson Wentz a Good Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickup?

The answer is that it really depends on what type of league you play in. If you play in a league where you can use two quarterbacks in your starting lineup (two at QB or one as QB, one as a superflex) and he is available, he should be scooped up.

This week Wentz is facing a Detroit Lions defense that allowed 38 points to the Philadelphia Eagles and let WR A.J. Brown steamroll them for 10 catches and 155 yards. Wentz will be a solid play this week in any league with a two-QB format.

Carson Wentz Fantasy Football Outlook for Week 2 and Beyond

Wentz also has a much better cast of players to throw to this year than he did in 2021 when all he had in Indianapolis was Michael Pittman and no other receiver or tight end with 400 yards.

Along with three quality wideouts, Wentz also has tight end Logan Thomas and running backs Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic who are premium pass catchers. 4,000 passing yards and 30 touchdown tosses is not out of the realm of possibility for Wentz if he can stay healthy and not ruin his fantasy value with terrible turnovers.

If you are in a one-QB league, Wentz is not going to be consistent enough to be your full-time QB1. He has too many issues with injuries and interceptions to be counted on week in and week out.

He could be an upgrade as your QB2, however, so in that case he could be picked up and used sparingly behind a superstar QB1 as a decent backup. If you want to spot-start Wentz on bye weeks or when he has an advantageous matchup, he should help.
