Most fantasy football leagues came to an end in Week 17. But if your league is a little different and concludes in Week 18, the final week of the regular season, or if you are playing DFS, then you should still be monitoring player news and injury information across the NFL.
The Kansas City Chiefs will kick off the final week of the regular season on Saturday on the road against the division-rival Broncos. They'll be looking to get back on the right track entering the playoffs after a tough loss to the Bengals in Week 17. Because they still have a shot at the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a win and some help, they'll be playing their starters, but will they have everyone?
Is Clyde Edwards-Helaire playing in Week 18 against the Broncos? And if he misses another game, is Darrel Williams worth starting? Let's take a closer look at KC's backfield for Week 18.
Is Clyde Edwards-Helaire Playing This Week Against the Broncos?
Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) will not play on Saturday against the Broncos in Week 18. Edwards-Helaire was unable to practice all week after missing the Week 17 loss to the Bengals as well. Kansas City will be hoping he's healthy enough to play next week, assuming the Chiefs don't secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC and get a first-round bye.
It wraps up a pretty disappointing second season in the NFL for Edwards-Helaire. He managed to play in only 10 games due to injuries and had 119 carries for 517 yards (4.3 yards per attempt) and four touchdowns, adding 19 receptions on 23 targets for 129 yards and two more TDs. CEH is the RB35 heading into Week 18 action.
Should I Start Darrel Williams in Week 18?
Running back Darrel Williams is a strong fantasy play in Week 18 against the Broncos on Saturday with Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) missing a second straight game. With Edwards-Helaire missing time due to injuries and COVID, Williams has made the most of his opportunities with a career year...
Not only is Henry ranked sixth in rushing yards despite not playing since Week 8, he's tied for sixth among RBs with 10 rushing touchdowns. He's the RB13 in overall fantasy points. Think about it... he's a top-15 RB and hasn't even played since Halloween.
Williams had perhaps his best game as a pro last week against Cincinnati with Edwards-Helaire out, carrying the ball 14 times for 88 yards and two touchdowns while adding three catches for an additional 19 yards.
If you're worried about Derrick Gore stealing some of Williams' thunder, Gore had only four touches (three carries, one catch) for 45 yards last Sunday while playing 13.1% of the offensive snaps, so the Chiefs are comfortable giving Williams the workhorse role, and the undrafted RB has earned it.
The Broncos defense has been one of the better overall units in football this year, but they're limping to the finish line and will be without several key players once again this weekend. In a game in which the Chiefs will be playing to win, Williams is a strong RB2 with RB1 upside because of his involvement on the ground and through the air out of the backfield.
