Is Logan Thomas Healthy or Injured? Should I Start Thomas for Week 1 Fantasy Football?

Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas is looking to bounce back in 2022 after he was hampered by injuries last season. When all was said and done, the quarterback-turned-tight end produced 18 catches, 196 yards, and three touchdowns through just six games. Of course, the year prior, he played in 16 games, totaling 72 catches, 670 yards, and six scores. His 176.9 fantasy points allowed him to finish as the TE3 that year.

Unfortunately, as Week 1 gets underway, Thomas' availability could be up in the air once again. The veteran tight end is dealing with another injury, this time to his knee.

Is Logan Thomas Injured or Playing in Week 1?

Thomas has been dealing with a knee issue and is labeled as questionable heading into Sunday's season opener against the Jaguars. He was limited in practice all week long.

On a positive note, John Keim of ESPN reported on Saturday that Thomas' outlook is quite optimistic and he should be active for the contest.

Logan Thomas Fantasy Football Outlook for Week 1

Thomas will be the Commanders' top tight end for Carson Wentz's Washington debut. He faces off against a Jaguars defense that was relatively strong against tight ends last season, surrendering an average of 6.1 fantasy points per game to the position. He will likely be covered by Rayshawn Jenkins, who accrued a 61.3 PFF coverage grade and allowed a 67.6 percent completion rate last season.

Thomas' fantasy production could be dependent on a touchdown. Although the 31-year-old has been a threat to score in the past, averaging 0.41 touchdowns per game between 2020 and 2021, it's worth noting that Jenkins did not allow a touchdown last season.

With a potentially tough matchup on tap, Thomas doesn't have excessive fantasy allure. There's no denying his upside, but without much insight into what his role could look like (or if he's even 100 percent due to his knee injury), it's best to view Thomas as nothing more than a mid-range TE2 this week.
