Injuries and COVID-19 continue to wreak havoc on the NFL schedule. Last week, the game between the Washington Football team and Philadelphia Eagles was moved to Tuesday and still failed to rid itself of COVID. Washington was adversely affected as both of their top quarterbacks were placed on the COVID list, and were forced to start Garrett Gilbert.
With Week 16 here, and the fantasy football playoffs in full swing, let's check in on the Washington Football Team's quarterback situation for this week. Is Taylor Heinicke playing this week? If not, is Kyle Allen going to be the starting QB? Let's dive in.
Is Taylor Heinicke Playing This Week Against the Cowboys?
After being placed on the COVID-19 list and missing the Week 15 game, Taylor Heinicke was activated off the COVID list for Week 16. He has practiced in full this week, and is full expected to return for the Week 16 game against the Dallas Cowboys:
Kyle Allen was also activated from the COVID-19 list, but will revert back to his usual backup role in Week 16.
Should I Start Taylor Heinicke in Week 16 Against the Cowboys?
While it's a great sign for WFT that Heinicke will make his return in Week 16, he is a risky start for fantasy football managers. In his last meeting with the Dallas Cowboys earlier this year, Heinicke did not have a good game -- he threw and interception, had a fumble, and only put up 122 passing yards with a TD on 11 completions. The Cowboys are boasting a strong defense this year, and we can expect them to give Heinicke issues again in Week 16.
Heinicke has not thrown for more than 200 yards since Week 12 this year, and has a 19-to-12 ratio of touchdowns to interceptions. You can consider him a lower-end option for 2QB or superflex formats, but expectations should be kept in check.
