ANALYSIS: Ish Smith has come in and done a very good job for the New Orleans Pelicans. His value will take a hit when Jrue Holiday is ready to roll, but in the mean time he is looking like a Ricky Rubio lite version. What I mean by that is that Smith has a low shooting percentage, but will fill up the stat sheet. Smith played 27 minutes off the bench on Tuesday night against Dallas, and hit 6-of-11 shots while going 5-for-5 from the charity stripe for 17 points. The shooting percentage was pretty good there and he threw in three boards, 12 assists, a steal and a block as well.
An important thing to note is the high praise that Smith has drawn from his coaches and the obvious, not to mention surprisingly quick, on-court chemistry that has developed between Smith and Anthony Davis. Smith's ability to push the tempo and rack up assists should allow him to maintain some value moving forward as the Pelican backcourt returns to full health. Heck if the shooting can continue to be decent Smith could even be a viable option in the long run.
