Ivan Nova Dazzles In 2015 Debut: Zero Runs Allowed By Yankees Starter

Ivan Nova had a great return from Tommy John surgery with 6 2/3 shutout innings over the Philadelphia Phillies.

In his 2015 debut, Nova couldn’t have been any better for the New York Yankees en route to a 10-2 victory. He just couldn’t quite get out of the seventh inning, though no runs came in to score anyway.

The 28-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery last April. After a few rehab starts, the Yanks decided to throw him in what will now be a six-man starting rotation.

Nova allowed three hits, two walks and struck out one over the 6 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. This performance came after the Yankees staff allowed 22 runs to the Phillies in the previous two games.

He admitted to ESPN.com before Wednesday’s game that he was indeed nervous. "This is like another dream," Nova said, comparing Wednesday's start to his major league debut in 2010. "I can't describe what is going through my mind."

Nova’s next start will come against the Anaheim Angels on the road.

"I feel much stronger than what I was, even though my velocity might not be there yet," Nova told ESPN.com. "It is a process."
