J.A. Happ (SP, TOR) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ team leagues

OWNED IN: 46% of Fleaflicker leagues

ANALYSIS: J.A. Happ has certainly picked up where he left off after being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second half of last season. Posting a 1.85 ERA in 11 starts, Happ has followed an impressive latter part of 2015 with a solid first month of 2016. Happ hasn't allowed more than three runs in his five starts, and has pitched six or more innings in each. He does have three wins to show for his efficiency, but could very well have five as the Blue Jays awarded him with only three runs in each of his two no-decisions.

It's a mystery why Toronto's offense has been so inconsistent, but if I had to guess, this sporadic scoring won't last too much longer. Combine an offensive outburst with the fact that Happ is exceeding projection with his .281 BABIP and high LOB% of 88.2, and you have a trustworthy fantasy starting pitcher. He's also averaging 2.48 BB/9, significantly lower than his career total of 3.51/9. Certain statistics will surely return to normalcy, but consistency is all we can ask for with Happ. He's definitely worth an add.
