BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 46% of leagues
ANALYSIS: J.D. Davis well on his way to recapturing the vibe that carried him to a breakout campaign of 2019. In 29 AB so far for 2021, Davis has two doubles, two home runs, and a booming slash of .414/.485/.690, however, he has found offensive success from a different approach this year than in years past. Davis has been producing an ISO of .276, a 52.6% hard hit, and an average exit velocity of 93.3 MPH, all of which are career-best marks; while his plate discipline has taken a hit, as demonstrated by his 30.3% strikeout rate and 6.1% walk rate, both of which are significantly less refined than in 2020.
The transformation doesn't end there. His BABIP of .588 would normally cause grave concern, but with the metrics Davis has been applying to batted balls and the fact that he's hitting for 31.6% line drives and by-far the lowest GB/FB ratio of his career (1.40), that number seems much less serious. Even if he has been getting a bit lucky, J.D. Davis is approaching each at-bat with the tools to net wide-ranging offensive success, and that's worth being a part of even with the Mets lackluster start at the plate.
