BALLER MOVE: Add in Deeper / AL-Only Leagues, Continue Scouting in Shallow Leagues
ANALYSIS: RotoBaller's Uncle Leo spoke about J.D. Martinez earlier today, but we love potential sleepers so let's keep it rolling. Martinez has been on hit streak now since June 9th, and has homered in three of his past four games. He and Victor Martinez have essentially been putting on the Martinez Bros show (not actual brothers or relations that I'm aware of) in Detroit while the rest of the team has struggled recently. J.D. definitely has some pop, as he has hit 19 HRs in a single season (between the majors and the minors) before. His current pace of HRs would go well beyond that total if he can keep it up.
His .247 ISO is about 100 points above his career norms, but during his time with the Tigers Triple A affiliate earlier this year he did have a .538 ISO, suggesting the potential that something has really clicked. His .369 BABIP is a bit luckier than his typical .313 BABIP, so we can reasonably expect him not to hit at a .299/.333/.546 clip for the rest of the season. But even with some regression, I really like J.D. Martinez as a cheap source of power. When Torii Hunter comes back, I expect Rajai Davis to be the one who ends up sitting more not Martinez. Overall, I like J.D. Martinez as a cheap source of power in a line-up that should give him plenty of RBI opportunities. At 3 % owned, J.D. Martinez is currently relatively unheard of. Let's try to change that.
