ANALYSIS: According to Pro Football Focus, Jacob Tamme has a pass rating of 1.6, good for 12th in the NFL among tight ends just behind Antonio Gates. His run blocking might be rated at an incredibly low -3.8, but with the Falcons' offensive line scoring a run block rating of 21 (the best in the NFL by 14 points), Tamme's poor blocking won't affect his playing time.
Excluding the match-up against the Cowboys in which Tamme was on the field for just twelve snaps, he has been on the field for 228 out of 304 snaps for Atlanta, which is 75% of offensive field time. Tamme has also been targeted 24 times, including a season-high ten times against the Redskins, and has caught 19 of those targeted passes for a 79.2% completion percentage. He's averaging 12.1 yards per reception and and 230 yards on the season. Tamme has only dropped one pass on the season and has yet to catch a touchdown pass, which is a little flukey for a tight end who comes in at 6'4'' and 232 pounds.
Matt Ryan has also been on fire when throwing in Tamme's area. From a distance of 0-9 yards and 10-19 yards in the middle of the field, Ryan has a passer rating of 98.5 and 87.6, while Tamme has a receiver rating of 87.9 and 98.6 from those respective ranges from the middle of the field. Jacob Tamme is a great PPR candidate at the tight end position and hopefully the high volume of targets from Matt Ryan will start piling up in the red zone.
