After missing six weeks, Jake Lamb will begin his way back to the Diamondbacks by beginning a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Wednesday, according to MLB.com.
The 24-year-old third baseman was supposed to have his first full season in the majors. Instead, Lamb hurt his foot back on April 21 after 10 games of the 2015 season. It was a huge loss for Arizona because Lamb was off to a great start.
He was batting .414/.514/.690 with one homer and nine RBI through his first 10 games, over 29 at-bats. This followed a struggling debut in the majors in 2014, where Lamb had a .230 BA in 37 games with the Dbacks.
Lamb is one of the bright young hopefuls in the Arizona lineup. The D-Backs are 23-27 as of Tuesday before their meeting with the Atlanta Braves. They are in the cusp of contention in the NL West and could very well use the services of Lamb’s bat.
