BALLER MOVE: Add in AL-Only Leagues / Deeper Mixed Leagues
ANALYSIS: One of the more highly-regarded prospects in all of baseball just a few years back, the Rays have trusted Jake Odorizzi unconditionally since acquiring him from the Royals for James Shields. The young righty got off to a questionable start in 2014, allowing three runs or more in five of his first six starts, including a seven-run thrashing at the bats of his former teammates in Kansas City. Still, Manager Joe Maddon kept him in the rotation, and it has been paying dividends. So he is now appearing on our list of waiver wire sleepers.
Odorizzi has thrown five quality starts in his last six outings, one of which being a seven-inning, one-hit shutout against Houston on June 21, striking out ten Astros in the process. He has really developed his four-pitch repertoire, utilizing a fastball, changeup, slider and curveball. At only 22% ownership in Yahoo leagues, it is time for fantasy owners to take notice of what the Rays' youngest hurler has been doing as of late. He has become a must-add in AL-Only leagues, and a legitimate starting pitching option in deeper mixed leagues as well.
