BALLER MOVE: Target ~150
CURRENT ADP: ~165
ANALYSIS: Let's start by drafting a pass-catching back for one of the most pass-happy, score-happy, fantasy-friendly offenses in the league, shall we? Jamaal Williams is clearly behind Ty Montgomery on the Packers' depth chart, yes. But hear me out here.
We heard of Montgomery's sickle cell trait issues towards the end of last year. While there haven't been any concerns so far this offseason, that's not something that just goes away all the time. Not to mention, it wouldn't be all that surprising if a skinny wide receiver turned running back were to get injured after a few too many hits in a full-season role. So yes, this might be a long shot on a clear backup, but is it really all that much of a stretch to predict Williams getting forced into a big role at some point this year?
The BYU product showed his ability to be serviceable as Aaron Rodgers' compliment in the backfield, racking up 46 yards on three catches in his most recent preseason game. The opportunity isn't quite there yet for Williams to be relevant in fantasy, but there's only one door that has to open, and the skill seems to be more than there, especially in PPR leagues. I'll gravitate here before I go with the likes of Darren Sproles, Shane Vereen, or CJ Prosise in more crowded situations.
