Jamaal Williams (RB, GB) - Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues

ROSTERED: 13% of Leagues

ANALYSIS: Nothing has changed in Green Bay's backfield through four weeks of play. Aaron Jones keeps racking up touches, rushing the ball 15+ times a game, and scoring all touchdowns on the ground (4 and counting). What has changed, though, is that the Packers have lost both Davante Adams and Allen Lazard lately, and the two of them missed Week 4's game against Atlanta. The effects: Jamaal Williams playing a season-high 36 snaps (three more than Jones) and featuring heavily on the passing game off the backfield (and the slot, once).

Given what happened on Monday, it is fairly safe to assume Green Bay drafted rookie RB A.J. Dillon just to stash him and deploy him in 2021. It's Jones, then Williams, then whoever else. Although Williams was given 8 rushing attempts against Atlanta, he could only run for 10 yards on the day. The best from his game, though, came on passing plays. Williams led the Packers in targets with 8 (tied with MVS), caught all of those passes, reached 95 yards (second-most behind TE Robert Tonyan's 98), and only lacked a score.

Jamaal 18.5 PPR points ranked 51st-overall in W4, and were good for him to finish as the RB16 of the week--keep in mind he is an RB2, who rushed for a paltry 10 yards... No wonder he led the week in receiving yards among RBs (only Alvin Kamara has tallied more yards in a single game this season; 139 in Week 3).

Williams won't ever beat Aaron Jones at rushing the ball (and as a Cheesehead I'm pretty pleased with Jones eating all he can), but his pass-catching ability is otherworldly and if Rodgers keep looking his way (even when Adams comes back) Williams might be a league-winning player. Other fantasy GMs might get scared off Jamaal with Green Bay out on a bye this week, so take advantage and go get him without hesitation.
