ANALYSIS: Heading into the 2019 season, James Washington was a guy I was looking to target late in fantasy drafts. Before he was drafted by the Steelers and was fairly buried on the depth chart, he was one of the higher profiled receivers in the 2018 rookie class. Since the recent injury to Ben Roethlisberger, Washington now finds him paired with his former college quarterback, Mason Rudolph.
Washington has 13 total targets on the season and has caught two passes in each of the first three games. While he is yet to find the end zone, there is definitely some reason to get excited about him. We all know that JuJu Smith-Schuster is the clear WR1 in Pittsburgh, but the WR2 role is up for grabs between Washington, Donte Moncrief, and Dionte Johnson. We saw the Steelers sit Moncrief in Week 3 after an awful Week 2 performance. Johnson was the one that found the end zone last week for the receivers not named Smith-Schuster, but Washington was on the field for 92% of the snaps while Johnson saw 79% of the snaps. While neither may be great options right away, the upside is intriguing and Washington is a talented receiver. In deeper leagues, he's worth stashing on the bottom of your bench and seeing how that group of receivers shakes out.
