BALLER MOVE: Add in 14-Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 8% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Jarren Duran is widely regarded to be one of Boston's top prospects, a player who has significantly raised his profile among both fans and experts alike since the 2021 minor-league season began. In 21 games and 85 at-bats at Triple-A Worcester this season, Duran has slashed .259/.364/.600 with eight home runs, five steals, 19 runs, and 14 RBI. The Duran-watch was postponed by several weeks recently as Duran joined Team USA for Olympic Qualifying and produced a .368 batting average with a double, a triple, a steal, three runs, and three RBI in 19 at-bats.
With Boston's lineup performing admirably, there's no immediate need for Duran at the major-league level, and Franchy Cordero could have the inside track if a temporary or part-time roster spot were to open up, but Duran would be the impact add should there be any significant injuries or struggles. A 36 percent home run to fly ball rate implies the power numbers could settle, especially when the transition to the major leagues has never been tougher, but Duran's speed would be a formidable fantasy weapon, especially with so few stolen bases across the majors. In his last full season in 2019, he stole 46 bases in 59 attempts across two levels.
In keeper and dynasty formats, Duran should already be rostered, but fantasy managers with roster spots to spare would be wise to add Duran now and bank on a call-up in the coming weeks.
