BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
ANALYSIS: Jason Hammel has had a nice start to his 2014, going 4-1 with a 2.45 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 37 Ks in 47.2 innings. Considering he’s on the Cubs in the bottom of the ever competitive NL Central, it’s an immediate handicap in terms of fantasy relevance. However, considering Hammel has recorded a quality start in each outing this year, along with decent run support considering who he plays for (4+ runs in half his GS) Hammel has made a great case to being a nice waiver wire find this season. He is currently owned in 64% of Yahoo leagues, making him a mixed league option already, and I would recommend also adding him in thinner leagues, based on him being the 10th ranked SP this season screams “add me.” His HR/FB% of 10.8% (at Wrigley) and BB% at 5.6% are very solid, and knowing he has never been this hot before, I have every intention of holding onto him in my 12 team league until he starts to come down to earth.
