Javier Baez (2B/3B/SS, CHC) - Waiver Wire Pickups

Baller Move: Add in 12+ team leagues

Owned in: 33% of Fleaflicker leagues

Analysis: No one should be too surprised that highly touted prospect Javier Baez is living up to his big name this season, but everyone should be surprised at how widely available he is, especially given his triple infield eligibility. This season in 49 AB, Baez has two HR, two SB, and a slash line of .306/.333/.490. Baez does own a rather high BABIP of .371, but his BA looks like it is very sustainable when you see that Baez puts the ball in play 69% of the time and hits a line drive 35% of the time which is far above average.

In his time with the Cubs in both 2014 and 2015, Baez had horrendous strikeout rates of 41.5% and 30%, but this season has lowered his K-rate to just 23.5%. The key factor in Baez limiting his amount of strikeouts is the fact that he has lowered his percentage of strikes while looking to just 15.8% all the way down from 23.3% the previous season. Baez has finally neutralized his monstrous weakness all while maintaining his ability to hit for average, power, and run the bases. Good news for the Cubbies, and Fantasy Baseball Managers.
