BALLER MOVE: Add Immediately In Most Leagues
ANALYSIS: Javier Baez is one of many top prospects currently in the Cub's farm system, along with Kris Bryant and Addison Russell. Second baseman Arismendy Alcantara was the first to get the call in early July, and now Baez is right behind him. Baez, a shortstop at the minor league level, will likely play second for the Cubs in the long run, considering his lack of elite defensive abilities and the loaded talent the Cubs have at the shortstop position. He does have a strong arm, so third base may also be an option if Kris Bryant is moved to the outfield. Regardless of where he plays in the field, Baez can flat out hit. In just 388 at-bats in 2013, he drove 37 balls over the fence while knocking in 111 runs, the latter being good enough to lead the Minor Leagues. So far in 2014, he has slowed down a bit, but has still belted 23 homers and driven in 80 runs in 388 at-bats. His incredible bat speed and ability to drive the ball all over the field will ensure that he will be able to hit at any level, as long as he continues to improve his plate discipline. You will definitely want to give Baez a shot in all but maybe the shallowest of mixed leagues, given what he has the potential to do. The 20-year-old should without a doubt be owned in all keeper leagues, no matter how deep. Hitters like Baez do not come around everyday, so you will not want to miss your chance to grab him.
