The New York Mets placed Jerry Blevins on the 15-day DL after being struck by a line drive Sunday in a victory over the Marlins.
Blevins, 31, will have to wear a splint on his fractured left forearm for the next six weeks as he suffered a distal radius fracture in his pitching arm, according to a ESPN report. The first-year Metroplitan will be able to resume throwing once the six weeks are over. He’ll need at least another two weeks to rebuild strength in his left arm.
This is a big loss for the Mets and their bullpen as the lefty was off to a dominant start in 2015. In seven appearances, the veteran had not allowed a run. During his relief appearance in Sunday’s game, a comebacker off the bat of Dee Gordon broke that streak along with Blevins' forearm.
In the same game, promising young catcher Travis d'Arnaud suffered a broken forearm. He will be out at least a month. New York has called up Hansel Robles from Triple-A Las Vegas to join the reeling bullpen.
