After two Jekyll and Hyde-like seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Jhonny Peralta is looking to swing an impactful bat through an entire season in 2016. After hitting .298 with 13 home runs and 46 RBI before the All-Star Break, he slumped to .243, four home runs and 25 RBI in the second half.
In his two full seasons with the Red Birds, Peralta has seen his power falter considerably in the second half of each year, as well as his ability to maintain a solid batting average for more than a single half. Yet, he has no real road-home splits to speak of, and his stats at the end of the season always look nice. Peralta seems to believe this tale keeps getting written this way due to pitchers better preparing for him, and he hopes to correct it going forward. Just as the Red Birds can now turn to Jedd Gyorko if Peralta struggles, fantasy owners should follow suit and draft a decent backup, or trade him before the second half.
