Joey Gallo struck again, and made it 2-for-2 in making some noise in the majors, as he hit his second home run in as many games of his big league career.
The Texas Rangers couldn’t ask for much more as the 21-year-old top prospect has adjusted well so far to the majors. After going 3-for-4 on Tuesday with four RBI, Gallo went 1-for-4 Wednesday, but did blast another homer.
His first at bats were all strikeouts. That is something expected of a rookie coming up to the majors, at such a young age, for the first time in his career. But instead of getting the old golden sombrero, the third baseman went deep in the ninth inning Wednesday as the Rangers lost to the Chicago Sox.
With the news that Josh Hamilton suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain, and will be out at least four weeks, Gallo will likely stay with the big club for longer than initially expected. He recently moved to the outfield to possibly come up that way, but an immediate spot opened up when Adrian Beltre went down with an injury. Since he’ll be out at least two weeks, Gallo was put back at third. Texas Rangers fans might have to get used to seeing the young star.
