Johnny Cueto pitched an eight-inning gem in the 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.
Wednesday was one of the best starts in 2015 for the Cincinnati Reds right-hander. Cueto struck out eight while allowing one run on four hits and one walk. He lowered his ERA to 2.52 ERA and his K/BB ratio to 40/8 over 103 2/3 innings pitched this season.
The only run came off a sac-fly in the sixth inning. Besides that, Cueto was on point Wednesday.
The 29-year-old only is 5-5 on the season, but starting to look like his normal self again. Cueto had a quality start in all but two of his last eight starts. During that period, he went seven innings of scoreless-baseball against the Padres, struck out nine Cubs in one start and did the same against the defending World Series champion, San Francisco Giants.
In 2014, Cueto was second in NL Cy Young voting. During his all-star season, he had a 20-9 record with a 2.25 ERA and 4 CG.
